How ClearRoute compares.
A fair look at ClearRoute Pilot next to ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, iFly EFB, and FlyQ EFB — based on each product's publicly available information and a review of ClearRoute's own capabilities. Last reviewed June 2026.
Advisory use only. ClearRoute is not certified for navigation. It is a planning and situational-awareness aid — pilots remain responsible for official briefings, regulatory compliance, and every go/no-go decision.
Where ClearRoute stands out
ClearRoute isn't trying to out-menu products that have been shipping for fifteen years. It is built around a specific idea: the app should explain the planning picture, not just render data. AI briefings that state their reasons, radar depth usually reserved for meteorology tools, terrain shaded against your altitude, fuel decisions priced against the real trip — with the pilot in command of every decision, and zero advertising or tracking.

- Part of ClearRoute's Pro feature tier.
- ForeFlight has announced AI NOTAM summaries ("ClearNOTAMs") and an AI planning connector as previews; they were not yet shipping at review time.
- FlyQ advertises automatic price-based fuel-stop planning, which is related but not a full trip-cost analysis.
- Announced by the vendor as upcoming in 2024; we could not confirm it has shipped.
- Competitor prices as published at review time; plans, regional pricing, and included features change — always confirm with the vendor.
What makes ClearRoute different
AI that explains the plan — and only advises
ClearRoute's AutoRoute planner recommends a route, altitude, fuel load, and alternate and tells you why: the winds it weighed, the weather it saw, the contingency points along the way, and how good its data was. Radar and weather summaries do the same in plain language. Nothing is a black box, and nothing decides for you.
The Radar Intelligence engine
Alongside the familiar animated composite, ClearRoute Pro's Radar Intelligence engine adds echo tops, precipitation rate and type, VIL, hail, lightning probability, storm rotation tracks — and per-site 250 m NEXRAD Level II super-resolution imagery, a level of radar detail we haven't seen advertised in any consumer EFB.
Terrain that knows your altitude
Terrain shading is computed against your current altitude — red at or above you, amber within a thousand feet — on the chart and in 3D synthetic vision, with advisory terrain-ahead alerts. Not a fixed relief map: a live picture of what matters at your altitude right now.
Fuel decisions priced like the real trip
Cheap fuel isn't cheap if the detour costs more than it saves. ClearRoute's true-cost-of-fuel tools weigh the pump price against the time and fuel to get there, using community-reported prices — so the "deal" is judged the way an owner actually pays for it.
Private by design
No advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and the app can run without a personal account at all. Your flying is your business.
A fair word about the competition
ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, iFly EFB, and FlyQ EFB are mature, capable products with large feature sets, long track records, and ecosystems ClearRoute doesn't attempt to duplicate. This page positions ClearRoute around its specific strengths; the right EFB for you depends on your aircraft, region, platform, subscription budget, and workflow. Try more than one.
Methodology
This comparison is based on publicly available product information for the competitor products (official product, pricing, and support pages) and a direct review of ClearRoute's capabilities, as of June 2026. Competitor features vary by subscription plan, region, platform, and release version. "Not advertised" means we did not find the capability presented in the vendor's official materials — not that it does not exist. If you spot an error, tell us and we'll fix it.
